Welcome... In 2001, The Community Foundation, Inc., parent company of The Community Hospital, announced the acquisition of two Northwest Indiana hospitals operated by Ancilla Systems, Inc. The foundation name was changed to Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc. Under the banner Community Healthcare System, Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart were integrated to offer a continuum of area-wide quality medical services. A history of Community Hospital was published in 2007, a history of St. Catherine hospital will be published early in 2009, and an upcoming history of St. Mary Medical Center will complete the trilogy. Each book is designed to record, save, and preserve the rich histories of the three medical facilities. A portion of the proceeds from publications through the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc. will go to support such causes as the Community Cancer Research Foundation, the Cancer Resource Centre and charitable and educational endeavors within the Community Healthcare System.
